{"id":778,"date":"2016-03-16T15:53:29","date_gmt":"2016-03-16T22:53:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec533byodtutorial\/?page_id=778"},"modified":"2016-03-27T16:56:11","modified_gmt":"2016-03-27T23:56:11","slug":"connect-and-attend","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec533byodtutorial\/connect-and-attend\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8212;Connect and Attend"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stage 1<\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The teacher will put up an image of an electric circuit and ask the following <strong>Key questions for discussion: \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-297\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cdli.ca\/courses\/ep\/predesign\/t03\/02knowledge-skills\/act-10a.htm\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec533byodtutorial\/files\/2016\/03\/circuit.jpg\" alt=\"circuit\" width=\"371\" height=\"223\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What is electricity?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Where does it come from?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What is\u00a0the importance of electricity in our life and how can we use it wisely?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The teacher will activate students\u2019 prior knowledge by asking them to fill in the K (What I <strong>K<\/strong>now) column of KWL chart on a Google doc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Self exploration without technical details:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Students will go online to watch YouTube videos and try to find answers to the key questions. After this step they will post their W (<strong>W<\/strong>ant to know) column of KWL chart on the Google doc. Teachers can make web-quests for their students so that they\u00a0can have a guided tour of the given topic. Depending on the students&#8217; capability, the teacher can allow them\u00a0to make a list of various web resources they visited which can be used as a web quest\/bookmark during the unit.
