Roblyer (2012) describes technology as technology is us -our tools, our methods, and our own creative attempts to solve problems in our environment. This is the description of technology I tend to most Identify with. I feel when thinking specifically about education technology, we may need to look at the description somewhat differently.
Defining educational technology is something that is best left identifying it as a very general and wide simple definition. ET is continually evolving and ever changing. To put any specific traits in its definition is pointless since the traits of ET cover such a widespread spectrum.
Educational technology could be defined by calling it the considered application of appropriate tools, techniques, or processes that facilitate the application of senses, memory, and cognition to enhance teaching practices and improve learning outcomes.
Technology in general is quite a more complex question than considering the application of technology to education. I found a reading on “The Question Concerning Technology” (Heidegger, M. 1977) very intriguing. I particularly like the elaboration on the essence of technology and how technology is not simply a means to an end but also a complex human activity of revealing and bringing forth.
