Using algorithms of predictive text in the Tumblr app,  I have created a micro blog that speaks of giving feedback to a student after submitting an assignment. I have again (like the golden record curation task) imposed my agenda and the result clearly reflects my own biased priorities, but approximately 50% of the text was generated solely by the auto-complete algorithm. The statements generated reminded me of online reviews I have read or auto created responses, like on Kijiji or feedback related to services in the commercial world. The statements generated used several words I would not have chosen and they did not allow me to give feedback in a truly professional manner. The vocabulary seemed limited to chose from and I could not possibly consider using this technology for academic writing or for educational feedback of any kind. The tone did not reflect my own and I found myself concerned that I may have unintentionally delivered a message in a manner that was not productive and may be misinterpreted. The implications of such misrepresentations would surely vary depending on the arena, however in my biased opinion, in education it is much too risky to use this technology in order to speed up communication with students. I do believe it is worth the time to type out what one needs and intends to say.
