Speculative Future #1:
It is 2050, and many advancements in AI have improved a students’ education. Students have access to their personalized robot they can use 24/7. They can use their robot within the classroom and at home. Students and teachers enjoy the transformation in education due to AI. Students are easily able to get help from an AI tutor. From the scanners and algorithms AI tutors have, AI can quickly understand concepts students are having difficulty with and help them in a one-to-one setting. Students enjoy being able to receive immediate assistance from AI, especially as their teacher is usually busy helping other students. AI tutors help students review for their tests. Additionally, AI tutors help students get into their desired university, as it is very competitive to get into a good university. Teachers enjoy having AI in the classroom, in assisting all the students, as it is impossible for the one teacher to personally help each student daily. AI helps keep students on task and entertains students that are finished their classwork early by sharing relevant science-related news and videos with them. Students never feel bored in science, as there is AI to fill in the gaps within the classroom. They entertain students by sharing funny stories and completing science demonstrations to teach them science. Furthermore, the teachers enjoy how AI can help with the paperwork, for instance, photocopying and providing a paper copy and/ digital copy of the classwork to each student. AI helps with organizing the teachers’ class website. Most importantly, AI helps with the most time-consuming part of a teacher’s job which is marking! AI scans all the documents and provides feedback and a mark to each student. The teacher double-checks the marking done by AI and makes changes where needed. AI helps to set up and clean up labs. AI has helped to improve society by assisting both the teacher and the student. Individuals in the world are happy with the advancements in technology, and the impact AI has had on their education!
Speculative Future #2:
The year is 2050, and robots have dominated the world and especially the education system. As food is scarce, one job of robots is to manage the portion of meals that everyone receives and to enforce healthy eating habits. All the food served at school is monitored by AI. The food is made from local organic food, and all students are on a vegan diet, as this diet is more environmentally friendly. Most of the food is grown from vertical farming, as there is limited fertile land for farming. Additionally, as water is limited, vertical farming saves water as it recycles water. Robots scan the brain and body of each student each day to see how they are feeling emotionally and physically. Robots analyze each student’s body composition and assess their hydration level. AI provides an individualized assessment for everyone. An individual’s weight, fat and muscle percentage are provided daily, and that data is stored by AI. If a student didn’t have enough physical activity at home, they are forced to run for 15 minutes before starting their first virtual class. If they did not follow their education plan at home, adjustments are made when they come to school. Any student that is misbehaving or not receiving 80% in all their classes is taken to the school “hell”. The students hate going there, as it is a very scary place to be. It resembles a jail setting, and each student is forced to stay in their jail until they create and commit to an action plan for their growth. They replay their same hell loop which goes over the scenario they need to fix. There are a few school counsellors that are available to help students having difficulty escaping their hell loop in time. Students are only allowed to stay in their hell loop for 2 weeks. Furthermore, as resources are limited in the world, students that do not improve their behaviour, attitude and skills are considered “unworthy” of living and are teleported to an inferior planet, Olive. If they cannot escape their hell loop from school in 2 weeks, they are forced to leave planet Earth. AI constantly uses algorithms to predict a person’s success in the future. Those individuals that do not have a good probability based on data from AI become eliminated from Earth and are sent to Olive. The living conditions on Olive are even worse than on planet Earth. As the population of Olive is 20 billion people, the living space and food are limited. There is no sunlight, as this planet is too far away from the Sun. As AI invades an individual’s life, people are scared to not obey the feedback provided by AI. They hope for when they will get freedom from AI and are longing for the day when peace will be restored in their world, and they will be “free” from AI.
