So, for my Twine task, I was inspired by the CrowsCrowsCrows example, and decided to go the funny and sarcastic route. I made a riddle game where the reader has to find the answer to the riddle hidden somewhere on the page. Sometimes it’s super obvious, sometimes you’ll be clicking around thinking “what is this nonsense?” (which, to be fair, was kind of the point). As the levels go up, the riddles get harder. I threw in hints through audio in short videos just in case it got too difficult by using Canva.

This project ended up being way more fun than I expected. I can totally see the creative potential of Twine; it’s like a playground for interactive storytelling. While working on it, I kept thinking about Bush’s idea of “trails of association,” where knowledge is connected through linked pathways that mirror human thought (Bush, 1945). I wanted my Twine to reflect that, though with more sarcasm and fewer scientific breakthroughs.

I found that Engelbart’s (1963) concept of technology as a tool for “augmenting human intellect” works with Twine as it lets creators organize ideas in nonlinear ways that invite exploration and curiosity. Ted Nelson’s (1999) idea of “deep links” that connect content across different spaces feels especially relevant since Twine is able to create different experiences for users depending on their choices. Moreover, Bolter (2001) mentioned the idea of the electronic book and how digital writing reshapes our relationship. In relation to my task, it isn’t just a game, but a playful experiment in how digital tools shape meaning.

Overall, I’m really proud of what I was able to create. I did have some technical growth when using it. One issue I haven’t been able to fix is the link underlining the answer. I tried to combat it by changing the CSS code, but since the submission is HTML, the link is able to accommodate the CSS changes. If I knew this before creating it, I would have changed my approach. Alas, I hope you enjoy!
