Task 5

THE DARE "I dare you!" "I double dog dare you!" I couldn't believe it. We were supposed to be walking to a friend's house, yet here we were; stopped in front of the creepiest house on the block. "What are you, chicken?" "I'm not chicken!" I said and I contemplated whether or not I would actually step foot inside this haunted mansion. Eventually I Took a deep breath and [[entered the mansion.]] Or Took a deep a breath and told my friends I was [[too afraid to go in there.]]

I hesitated as I walked up the entrance and pulled open the heavy, front door. I had just stepped inside when I heard a [[loud sound]]

"Bok, bok, bok!" "Too chicken to go inside?" "Fine then. Stay here, chicken. We'll be back shortly." Just like that I watched my three friends bravely disappear inside the haunted mansion while I was left alone [[standing on the sidewalk out front.]]

I hesitated as I walked up the entrance and pulled open the heavy, front door. I had just stepped inside when I heard a loud sound... [[BANG!]]

I realized it must be an unlatched door, rattling in the wind. As I begin to walk into the mansion, I see a large staircase, covered in cobwebs, leading up to the second story. To the right I see a long hallway; too dark to discern what's down there. To the left I see room with the faint outline of a piano and multiple picture frames propped on top. I'm on edge being in here, but my curiosity is piqued and I want to explore this vast place. So I decide to... [[Walk up the stairs]] [[Walk down the hallway]] [[Enter the piano room]]

As I begin climbing [[up]]

I began tiptoeing through the darkness and flailed my hands infront of me until I could feel the edges of the wall. Keeping my hand on the wall, I walked [[further...]]

As soon as I got close to the piano, I could see the keys start to move. A lovely song began to play, which made me relax a little bit. Just when I thought this house wasn't so scary after all, the picture frames all slammed down [[at once.]]

As I begin climbing up [[Up]]

As I begin climbing up up Up UP I start to smell rotten eggs. "Ugh! What is that?!" I think to myself. And then I remembered the stories other people had told me about how demons smell like [[sulfur.]]

My heart began beating out of my chest as the air around me suddenly dropped to a frigid temperature; so cold I could [[see my breath.]]

Out of the corner of my eye I saw a black shadow approaching me. Then a deep voice bellowed, [["GET OUT"]]

I tripped over my own feet as I tried to run away. Scrambling to get up, my breath quickened to the same pace as my racing heart. Down the stairs I ran. [[down]]

I pushed the front door open, ran outside to where my friends were standing and began to hyperventilate. "What happened?" "Did you really see a ghost?" "No," I replied, "there's no ghost in there. But there is a demon and I'm never coming back here again." My friends exchanged worried glances before we all took off running [[down the street.]]

We never returned to that house again. To this day, just thinking about it sends a [[shiver down my spine.]]

"Oh no!" I thought, "What's happening in there? What did they see?" [[I heard footsteps]]

"Oh no!" I thought, "What's happening in there? What did they see?" I heard footsteps I thought they were coming from inside the house. I thought they were the sound of my friends running away from whatever they had encountered in there. [[But then]]

I realized they were coming from behind me. Before I had a chance to turn around, a deep voice [[whispered in my ear.]]

[["You're next"]]

Before I could turn around, I was suddenly transported back in time to when my friends first taunted me with [[The Dare]]

I began tiptoeing through the darkness and flailed my hands infront of me until I could feel the edges of the wall. Keeping my hand on the wall, I walked further... [[...and further...]]

Until suddenly the ground disappeared beneath my feet and I found myself inside of a tiny room that seemed to be [[moving.]]

I frantically looked around for an exit, but this small box of a room was also pitch-black. It shimmied and it shook and then I had the sensation that this room was moving [[upwards.]]

DING! I realized I had fallen into a type of elevator. As the doors creeked open, I was back at the entrance of the house, faced with the decision to either [[Walk up the stairs]] or [[Enter the piano room]]

That startled me and I decided I wasn't welcome in this room. So I turned around and walked back to the entrance of the house. "Hmm..." I thought, "Where should I go next?" [[Walk up the stairs]] or [[Walk down the hallway]]
