What’s in Your Bag?
My name is Inhee Kim and this is my last course in the MET program. I found the course title ‘Text Technologies: The Changing Spaces of Reading and Writing’ to be quite interesting because of how technology is always changing and it impacts how we read what is around us.
The picture I have selected is my daily bag to work- the daily essential items that I must carry to work. The following items in the picture are as followed (clockwise)- sharpie and pen, lavender scented hand sanitizer, home/car keys, wallet, visuals, water bottle, laptop, work keys (fob) and laptop. Obviously, my cellphone is part of the bag, but I used it to take this photo.
I feel that ‘text’ can be used to communicate a statement or messages. With the contents in my bag, one could predict that I could be a learner using technology. I care about my health because I carry a reusable water bottle and a hand sanitizer. I also have a visual communication card that I carry with me. The visual card is for the students that I work with, as it could indicate that I work with students with more learning needs.
The image presents a minimalism concept but on a daily basis the bag is filled with junk or things that may not be needed in the bag. So each evening before my day starts, I will clean it out to ensure I am prepared for the next day.
I don’t think this bag would have looked the same 15-25 years ago because many people did not have laptops to carry around. Also, depending on their work they would not need visuals to communicate. I would presume that the contents of my bag is a minimalist style- organized and simple. One could think, I work in a place where I may have more personal belongings, as I do not carry it with me in my daily bag.
