This week the task was to start a thread in mircoblog from the following prompts:
-Education is not about…
-My idea of technology is…
–Every time I think about our future…
–As a society, we are…
–This is not my idea of…
I chose ‘My idea of technology is…’ and here’s what happened:
… not really happening today but I’m sure it will be better than it was before
This is not how I would normally talk in real life, but through my phone this is how I talk. It’s very interesting with how predictive text works. It must collect a lot of data from me before it generates these words. I must’ve used them so often that I think spits out words that I want to say. It’s sort of scary if you think about how predictive text is thinking one to two steps ahead of me.
Even though I have the predictive feature turned on, I don’t prefer to use it. I am a person that always ends up texting everything. I am used to typing each word- to me it’s kind of printing. You can shortcut your way through printing either. It’s turned on so for days when I am on the run and need to quickly text.
A lot of the resources his week was interesting, but Dr. Vallor’s video made me re-evaluate and reflect on what kind of future we are creating with technology. The video begins with what we think and expect of AI, but who is responsible? Do humans assume that it will be the solution to all human problems ?
What resonated with me the most was, “However, many of these AIs are just a powerful pattern finders and amplifier. That’s what hey are built to do.” (Santa Clara University, 2018). This means that all of what is produced from AIs are based on behaviours and patterns from humans. It’s truly a reflection of ourselves, simply like a mirror. We can this powerful tool AI- to make a better place, don’t rely on AI- thinking that it can solely make a better place. Humans are still responsible for what we are creating.
