Here is my Linking Assignment.
Name | Connection |
Elizabeth Kim |
I chose Elizabeth’s post because I read felt there was a connection in Week 2 – Language as Technology: Spoken language I felt she and I share a Korean background that perhaps our experience would have some similarities. I really resonated with her comment, “I found myself comparing my knowledge of English grammar to Korean grammar as well. From my personal knowledge and from what I have gathered about Asian language through peers, I’ve always found that it takes on a quite scientific form. Like you mentioned, the verb always stays the same and additional words are added. There are no exceptions. Whereas in Western languages, there seem to be a lot more exceptions to grammatical rules and spelling.”

Yi Liu |
I chose Yi’s post during Week 3’s Voice to Text task. I think we both had similar thoughts about punctuations and how without punctuation that it can confuse your reader/listener, “I suddenly realized how confusing a simple story could become without punctuations. Especially the conversations between characters is hard to understand.”

Jessica Shea | https://etec540shea.weebly.com/manual-scripts.html
I chose Jessica’s post during Week 4’s Manual Scripts task. I found out that Jessica also likes to, “I like to both type and write by hand.” She is a teacher just like me we had very similar ideas about writing, “When writing by hand, it is much more difficult to correct a mistake when writing with certain utensils. For example, I used a pen to write, so instead of erasing a pencil, or backspacing on a keyboard, I just scratched over what I had written.” This was what resonated with me the most because I also think like this, “I also, found that I was writing off the top of my head, which didn’t allow me to organize my written work as best I wanted to. So when I got to a certain point, I couldn’t just copy and paste things and reorder them. I had to keep writing and organize my thoughts as best I could from then on out.” I require more time to brainstorm and find it challenging sometimes to write off the top of my head. Jessica’s webpage layout, font, colours are all things I would use for my own. I really like how her weeks were organized at the top, with a drop down option. |
Ev Tsang | https://mlyne2010.wixsite.com/etec540evt/project-05
Twine Task- Exam Ev made a twine task was about taking an exam and mine was about weekends plans- it’s very different but perhaps we choose topics that were relevant in our lives. Her twine was designed better than mine in the sense that she was able to put more effects into hers. I found Ev’s webpage to be very unique. It was not your generic website with menus on the top. Each task was represented with an image that lead to a new page. The colour scheme was also dark and seemed very “in the future” like.

Jen McAllister |
Jen chose a movie just like me and I think that she entered emojis based on the flow of her movie. Many emojis were repeated used because movies had main characters and sometimes same scenes that are repeated shown. I personally think it can be easier to choose symbols to represent from movies because it is easier to interpret than say books or images as they can convey different meanings.

David Loti
|
David’s analysis was much more detailed than mine. He counted the songs that were shared between Leslise and I, it was much more detailed and I like his approach better than mine. There was more mathematical calculations that were conducted- I just didn’t know where to begin!
David concludes with, “This single example is insufficient to form a functional working theory. However, because of this experience I wonder if this outcome is an unlikely exception or if diversity as an operational selection methodology statistically may be less significant than it seems.” I felt that this task left some of us with more questions and it was more food for thought. His last comment still leaves me thinking about the outcomes of our curation analysis. |
