Task 6 – An Emoji Story

Posted by in Tasks, Uncategorized

This task was quite enjoyable, as I got to analyze one of my favourite shows that I have watched many times. It was challenging at first to sift through all the emojis and to find ones that encapsulated the messages that I wanted to convey. There were times as well that I wanted to communicate something, but there weren’t appropriate emojis. For example, one of my characters loves mango yogurt. I could find a mango emoji, but there was no yogurt one. The closest ones were milk and ice cream, but I did not want it to be interpreted that way.

I started off with the title as it gave me some emojis that I could use in my plot description that would make the entire story cohesive. I did not choose this show as something that was easy to visualize, but a show that I know a lot about since I have watched it many times. Since there are many seasons to my show, it was difficult to describe the entire plot, so I put down some general themes. I listed off the main characters with their personality traits and interests to help give more context to the plot. Similarly to what I explained above, there were certain things that emojis could not describe accurately, or there was not an emoji available all together. Consequently, I had to omit them or find a creative way to express my ideas. Just like the plot, I used the traits and interests in my plot description, so I could hopefully convey my thoughts effectively.

For my chosen emojis, I mainly chose words and ideas. I did not try to make sentences with the emojis, but chose certain personality traits and interests and are unique to each character. I also included some emojis that are in a way understandable to those who have watched it. There are a few emoji references to certain episodes and jokes that are seen throughout the show. I am also a mathematical person, so I like to express my emojis using equations.
