{"id":516,"date":"2009-09-16T06:51:04","date_gmt":"2009-09-16T13:51:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec540sept09\/?p=516"},"modified":"2009-09-16T06:51:04","modified_gmt":"2009-09-16T13:51:04","slug":"the-question-concerning-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec540sept09\/2009\/09\/16\/the-question-concerning-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"The question concerning technology."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/walsweer\/3925331055\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-518\" title=\"Canada (2009-09-15) - 096\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/etec540sept09\/files\/2009\/09\/technology-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"A way that human's do things.\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Martin Heidigger (1977), in his pivotal essay, \u201cThe question concerning technology\u201d deconstructs and examines the essence of technology.\u00a0 I have to admit that this piece of work was one of the most challenging pieces of philosophy that I have encountered so far in not only my MET but in my academic career.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, the essay examines in depth what technology is.\u00a0 Heidigger contends that \u201cthe essence of technology is nothing technological\u201d (Heidigger, 1977, p.4) but is instead a system.\u00a0 It is really not an end in itself but a way of doing things as well as being a human endeavour.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Or put in another way, technology is far more then just things. An examination of technology with this view of technology being a material object essentially produces \u201cblind spots\u201d so that we cannot fully examine the scope and range of what human\u2019s relationship with technology is.\u00a0 Even a definition of technology as being a human endeavour that strives to achieve to get something done, does not go far enough for Heidigger\u2019s tastes.<\/p>\n<p>I have to admit it is at this point of the essay that I become lost in all the terminology (enframing, revealing, Gestell and shining forth).\u00a0 I would welcome a further \u201crevealing\u201d of the essence of \u201cThe question concerning technology.\u201d\u00a0 I apologize for the confusing post and for some even bring up Heidigger however a blog post concerning technology that at the very least does not mention Heidigger would be a \u201cincomplete\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work Cited<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heidigger, Martin (1977).\u00a0 The question concerning technology.\u00a0 Downloaded on September 16, 2009 from<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.wright.edu\/cola\/Dept\/PHL\/Class\/P.Internet\/PITexts\/QCT<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Martin Heidigger (1977), in his pivotal essay, \u201cThe question concerning technology\u201d deconstructs and examines the essence of technology.\u00a0 I have to admit that this piece of work was one of the most challenging pieces of philosophy that I have encountered so far in not only my MET but in my academic career.
