    Hi Heather, Janet, and Keith,

I really enjoyed exploring your wiki on writing in the digital age. I like how you pointed out the importance of learning to write well, regardless of technology used, and that you stressed the importance of focusing on the story and not just the affordances of that technology. While there are a lot of tools available to teach writing, I think there is a real danger of getting caught up in their cool effects and lose sight of the writing itself.

Thanks for the clear, succinct summary of different types of literacies. The statistics about the amount of time students spend on social media opposed to other pursuits were eye opening and highlight the importance of teaching the skills necessary to use social media effectively. It was a great idea to survey your colleagues. It was interesting that their responses were a mix of traditional and technology skills, which emphasizes that embracing new skills doesn’t mean abandoning old if they are still important, relevant, and useful.

    Grant

I have to admit, I have struggled with this same concept over the last several years. I appreciate your informative exploration on this.
