I chose to play with iMovie (getting in more experience following my initial attempt with assignment 2) and to rip content from movies about dogs and add my content about multiliteracies.<\/p>\n
The topic might seem somewhat left field of ‘Text and Technologies’, but it resonates with my current work as an instructional designer with Seeing Eye Dogs Australia. I’m fascinated by the complex learning that occurs when a dynamic animal and a dynamic human being interact over 20 weeks to achieve a human-dog skill set that approximates what a dog will need to do with a vision-impaired client. The dog becomes the client’s “seeing eye” and uses its literacies to navigate different surfaces, find kerbs, walk straight across the street, walk down the centre of the footpath, find seats\/chairs, move away from objects on the right of the human or high up that might touch the human, walk through shopping malls and even about the supermarket, and so on. The dog uses aural and visual literacies to pick up human commands and directions. <\/p>\n
With this fascination in mind, I came across a video of a quirky project by a New Zealand dog welfare association (well a bunch of their videos) and decided to rip some of the content, add my own graphics and export the work as a movie. In the process, I’ve linked what I think is very impressive dog learning with some ‘multiliteracies’ as highlighted by The New London Group (1996). <\/p>\n
