Hi, my name is Ernesto Peña (it rhymes with “lasagna”). I made this short video a couple of years ago to introduce myself and to explain the importance of the accent in my last name and the implications of its omission in most of my official records at UBC due to technical impediments.
Besides teaching this course, I do UX research for a Vancouver-based Fintech. My background is mostly in design, but my PhD (soon to be completed) is in Literacy Education. My partner and I have two wonderful kids and I absolutely love teaching this course 🙂

Nice to meet you, Ernesto! It is interesting that after being in design you ‘shifted’ to literacy! .. Was there any particular reason? Just curious!
We are getting more and more literacy students and I find this area of teaching needs more developed materials and more guidance for instructors…. To be honest with you, I found it super challenging and see a tremendous difference between students as I am teaching a Hybrid course now!
