I chose this image because it embodies the use of technology and how we are always looking to the ever-changing, unreachable horizons. I like that it is an animated gif which explains the craft of using a sextant. The sextant is an amazing instrument because it has constantly gone through minor iterations, always borrowing from the past and adding both benefits and costs to each form. Quite the metaphor for our modern challenges.
This is my second course in MET and I have been enjoying the process immensely. I look forward to learning from your experiences and insights. I have been working in the adult education field under various guises for the past 20 years. I have been an instructor of computer programming, ESL, fitness, workplace practices, advanced driving, etc. Nowadays I mostly am working in instructing advanced driving, workplace practices and fitness (classes and personal training). I am excited to learn more about how concepts of text and technology inform our practices in the education field, as well as how to gauge our current uses of technology (be it language or digital literacy) in our practice. Already I have found the readings to be insightful and applicable.

What a great breadth of teaching experiences! You must have a lot of insights on various types of motivations, their correlation to practice and success.
Looking forward to learning together!

Thanks for the welcome Alicia. I find especially in the advanced driving skills, envisioning success is key to a student’s success, whereas in personal training it is being cognitive of short and long term goals. In workplace practices an important motivator is a clear concept of immediate relevancy. Education is certainly a large and exciting field, I look forward to learning with you as well.
