Greetings,
Not much to say here. I’m really not all that exciting. So, if you are the type to get envious after reading about all the places your fellow students have travelled, and all the prestigious and challenging jobs they’ve had…
Relax.
I’m here to make you feel good!
See, I haven’t left the country in which I was born for any longer than about twelve hours, and that’s twelve hours combined on two separate occasions. Seemingly, I can leave my bed, I can leave my house and I can even leave my town but I just can’t cross any national borders for any prolonged period of time.
One day I am hoping to take my wife, our 14 year old son and the family dog across the Canada /US border. In the interim, I’ll dream about that while I’m eating my Raisin Bran for breakfast like I do every morning before I go to work.
I’ve been a teacher within the metropolis of Williams Lake, B.C. (Canada) for about 14 years. In ten of those years, I have been telling people that I teach English 10 and 11. They actually believe it! I suspect it’s just a matter of time before I’m caught.
I’m excited about the new English curriculum arriving next year.
Very excited.
So, I probably am white bread, just like my wife says. But, that really isn’t quite accurate because I’m really white bread that hasn’t traveled anywhere.
Yeah.
Going into space would be cool.
I created my visual. It seemingly is a contradiction: a static image, with printed text, that conjures up multimodal media, but in particular, video media with an iconic history. When I thought of the image, I heard the familiar music and saw the words flying through space. I knew the premise of the story before it developed. It seems to me that a war of mythological proportions is waging, a war as to decide what text will capture our attention and rule the universe! Maybe it’s an epic battle between good and evil. In short, I thought it was cool that so much information could be conveyed through so little printed text: two words that were worth a thousand images.
Looking forward to working with you all,
Michael

Hi, Michael.
With a creative post like this one, I’d suggest that you are anything BUT white bread. Unless it is a croissant or something equally interesting.
You’ve definitely caught my attention and I am looking forward to learning with you and seeing your take on the course material.
Cheers!

Thanks Carri-Ann, you put a smile on my white, bread face. Perhaps you can see it, if you were to envision a slice of bread with a rather large air space in the middle.

Ah…but white bread is the foundation and basis for many varied and Delicious recipes such as french toast breakfast bakes and turkey stuffing.
Yummm……getting hungry now.
Looking forward to working with you both, Carri-Ann and Michael.

Thanks Alicia for the reply. It’s very true that one can make some pretty great stuff from some pretty boring things. I’m reminded that all of our fancy technology is created from human ingenuity, rocks, minerals and dead life forms. I guess there is hope for white bread after all!

Hi Michael
I was up in your area a few years ago, passing through to canoe the Bowron Lake circuit. After the canoe trip, my wife and I spent our 25th anniversary in Williams Lake. We plan on doing the canoe trip again after I am done the ETEC program (hopefully next summer). Living in such a beautiful area, there is little else that I have seen that compares to the scenery that surrounds you. No wonder you are not in a hurry to venture elsewhere.
Looking forward to working with you this term.
