Weighing in at 1.5 tonnes and outputting a blazing 250 copies per hour (with a skilled pressman) the Columbian Iron Manual Press was a revolutionary piece of equipment (in the early 1800’s). It replaced the sweatshop worthy wooden presses (which went about 400 years without a significant improvement) that were known to disform and maim anyone who dared work with them.
I chose this piece of technology because I didn’t want to do excessive amounts of research and I was able to find one at the Bradford Industrial Museum while visiting my wife’s family (honesty is the best policy!). Although the topic is rather dry, I enjoyed creating the videos for this project and manipulating them slightly with Camtasia. For the overall production I kind of copped out and chose to use PowerPoint and the Camtasia addon. Not the fanciest, but I have used them quite a few times and to be honest I am very comfortable with PowerPoint.
I can honestly say I am amazed at how difficult it was to sync up the text with the images on the PowerPoint. I kept making mistakes and having to restart the whole thing, I need to learn a bit more about the addon because maybe there is a feature that allows you to save checkpoints and return to them. The final product has some errors but it is the best this amateur can do! To be honest speaking naturally in my ETEC 565M assignment was easier, then using a script. I even put *click* pen marks on it to help! But it wasn’t enough and I found myself fumbling my speech at times.
I can honestly say, this project was the most amount of work I had to do for one assignment. So without further adieu:
