While I wait for this monster to upload, let me jot down my thoughts…
The project itself was very interesting. I certainly learned a lot more than I thought I was going to, both technologically and historically. My one regret was that the video was nowhere near 10 minutes (12:30-ish before credits?), and I think I can attribute that to both the amount of information I accumulated (I already felt like I was just glossing over the essentials) as well as my production process. I wrote out a script which came in around the limit, but by the time I had added visuals, music, credits, and smoothed everything over with transitions, I was way over time, and out of patience to retweak everything that was already connected.
Camtasia continues to be my favourite media tool, although the version I am on had limited functionality. I was amazed at how enjoyable – and frustrating – it was at times to link up my thoughts to just the right combination of images, with just the right ambience of visual and audio effect.
Although I can very clearly see my proficiency in this medium develop, it really needs to be a labor of love (or another major course project) to encourage me to make another video. The amount of time required researching information, writing, researching visuals, and editing is simply too much for anything I would put together on a whim, or for my classroom. Maybe it is just me; I tend to fixate on details. Still, I did take a great deal of satisfaction out of this project.
