For my video on the telegraph, my initial priorities were the research and script components; I then gathered images that reinforced the recorded voice-over. As far as software goes, I chose to use a video editor called VideoPad. Its straightforward interface allows for relatively inexperienced editors to navigate the otherwise complex video editing process. The program allowed for the splicing of audio, which I found to be an absolute necessity, particularly in contrast to programs such as VideoScribe that require creators produce the voice-over component in a single take. One challenge I encountered with the program was the relationship between images and audio. When moving images to a different frame, for example, the associated audio would often move as well. This would then require individual corrections to reset the desired sequence of images and audio. Another challenge was dealing with the varied sensitivity of my laptop’s microphone; achieving a consistent audio effect was difficult despite recording in a single setting and sitting. Overall, I feel that the images I have selected to supplement the voice over provide additional context and guidance for the viewer, particularly those who struggle without a script. I believe the video is balanced in its approach to the topic, and attacks the question in an organized and linear fashion.
