This was a tough one.

My video documentary concerns the use and impact of print and propaganda in the Protestant Reformation. I have a background in history, particularly European and religious history, so this was a fun project to combine past and current interests. This was my first time creating any sort of video project and decided to use Camtasia as several classmates recommended. There was definitely a bit of a learning curve, but after watching a few tutorial videos and playing with the tools available, I found the software to be quite user friendly for learning the basics of video editing.

Stylistically, I settled for emulating historical documentaries that I watched countless times during history classes. I spent far too much time researching my topic and as such my grand plans of creating an ultra creative video by learning how to create animations were dashed by time constraints.

Some things I learned regarding audio recording:

-Simply changing rooms can alter the audio of voice recording

– I need to better plan the length of my script when converting to audio. My video ended up being much longer than intended, and by recording all my audio in succession I did not leave myself enough time to cut it down.

– My dog somehow knows when I attempt to record and will bark incessantly to try and be involved.

-It is not a good idea to choose a topic with a lot of German names.

I was a little intimidated by this project, but it ended up being a great challenge and learning experience. I look forward to further building my video editing skills in the future in order to create more dynamic videos.
