You have decided to go during Summer. You line up at the B.C. Ferry and have to wait because you didnt make a reservation for yourself and your car. 4 hours later you finally make it on board a jammed packed ferry. You decide to head upstairs and sit on the sun deck to take in the views and the fresh air. Suddenly someone starts smoking and children are running around screaming so you head back downstairs. You cannot find anywhere to sit as this ferry is packed. You head back to your car but are stopped by security informing you that you are on the bottom deck so you cannot stay in your car. You head back upstairs wishing you had your headphones and find a place to sit with 4 strangers who seem to be talking loudly about some gossip they have heard. After an hour and fifty minutes you arrive in Nanaimo. What do you want to do next?

It has a funky look to it as its a bright Pink building sitting on the edge in Nanaimo. Its specialty is Mexican food which will warm you up. You arrive at Ginas and quickly order the best food youve ever eaten.

You quickly look at the top restaurant choices on your phone. You head to seveal sites and find there is a long waitlist. After waiting you decide to just head to a McDonalds drive-thru. You pull over to enjoy your burger while looking out over the ocean.

Now that you are in Nanaimo you try and find somewhere to stay for the weekend. Silly you, you didnt make a reservation. After calling many of the top listed hotels you realize theres no where to stay! After calling almost all the top hotels you finally get through to the Castaway Motel. You check in and are pleasantly surprised of the accomodations. You take a quick nap before heading out downtown Nanaimo.

After eating you check into the hotel which you made reservations for back before you came. You are surprised of the accomodations and take a quick shower in the spacious bathroom. You then change and decide to head downtown Nanaimo to check it out.

Its early so you decide to drive up the island to Coombs. You hear there is a place where goats live on the roofs. As you make your way up island you admire the beauty around you. You finally arrive and realize there is no where to park your car. Its hot and there is people walking everywhere. You drive up and down the road finally catching a glimps of the goats. When you try to take a picture a car behind you honks to keep moving. You realize this was a big mistake to do especially on a weekend. Your Vacation is ruined. You head back to Vancouver.

After your long hot day in Nanaimo and exploring the island you wake up feeling excited. You head out to the local shops exploring the museum and art gallery. You find out there is some sort of local event called Bathtub races. You enjoy the parade and learn there are fireworks in the evening. This has turned out to be one of the best weekends of your life.

You wake up and are startled to see snow coming down in Nanaimo. "What! It doesn't snow here!" You get dressed and head down to the car and find a local cafe for breakfast. The snow continues to come down so you decide to keep the car at the hotel and walk around the waterfront walkways. You admire the local holiday decorations and find some soveniger shops where you purchase things that are made from local artisans.

After exploring the festivities you head down to the waterfront and board a small boat that takes you to a floating restaurant. You enjoy fish and chips. This restaurant is known as the "Dingy Dock Pub." Its the only floating restaurant in Western Canada. You stay and enjoy the fireworks from your table. You return to your hotel exhausted from your busy day.

The day ends early as it gets pretty dark really early in the Winter. You take another walk down Commercial street checking out the Santa Claus parade! You pop into Star bucks and grab a holiday drink. You then head back to the hotel and fall asleep quickly. You feel relaxed and rested.

The next day you wake up and head to the ferry. You are lucky enough to get to stay in your car on the middle car deck with a window view. After the hour and half boat ride you dock back in Vancouver, drive home and fall asleep on the couch. Your quick winter vacation was relaxing and you loved everybit. You remember about the Nanaimo bar you bought at the local coffee shop and eat it up!
