Anita Heitz – Introduction
To me, this image sums up many elements of this course: literacy, reading, writing and printing. I snapped this picture a few days ago, my oldest daughter has just started preschool and is beginning the journey of becoming a literate little being. This little 3 year old is able to recognize letters and is starting to understand that different letters make different sounds. These are the building blocks to literacy. Furthermor, she is also part of the next generation who could very well experiences some of the biggest and possibly fastest changes in text technologies.
My name is Anita Heitz, I live in Mission BC and teach in Abbotsford. I am a middle school teacher (I teach grade 6 and 7), wife to a fantastic husband Ryan, mother to 2 beautiful girls. This course marks the half way mark for my MET journey. I am bilingual (as are my daughters) , so language, how we acquire it and how it changes over time has always been interesting to me. I also love history and am excited that this course seems to offer some historical elements and (I am hoping) provide some historical context to how reading, writing and language have changed over the course of time. I’m excited to work with and learn from new people this semester.
Welcome Anita! And yes, this course has a lot of what you are hoping to find.
Love the picture and relation to the course. As a mother of a toddler as well, I often think of just how much technology they will be exposed to growing up. Their upbringing will likely be so different. It makes you wonder where their skills will develop and how their learning will be positively affected by the early introduction of technology. Thanks for the post!
