Intro to Hayley Hewson

Hi everyone,
This is my third course in the MET program, and I am already feeling the ideas sparking around text and technology. I live in Victoria, BC, and work in the post-secondary sector.
I chose this image because it is an example of text and technology, and I like the reminder that technology is not just computer technology. This sign uses the technology that works for its purpose- to make us all hungry for steak and eggs. More seriously, it is an example of the ubiquitous nature of the text around us, and how it pollutes our natural environment in a way. On the other hand, the different fonts on the sign have a certain beauty.
I am thinking a lot lately about how certain texts are valued. Who is authoritative, who do we read and pay attention to? In a course like this, how are the words of our fellow learners privileged in a different way than the words of our instructor, or the words in our texts and course notes? How do we determine what to pay attention to?
As usual, so many questions!

  1. Hi Hayley,

    $4.99! That’s a good deal!

“How do we determine what to pay attention to?” is very good question for MET and online learning in general. When each interesting and useful post or article leads to four more, where do you stop? This is something we all have to answer for ourselves, I think.
