Hello Everyone,

My name is Jessica Stewart and I know that I am super late in giving an introduction and catching up on everything you have been up to. Even if I do not get credit I feel like I should still do it. I am sorry.

I live in a very remote area in Northern BC in a community of about 300 people. I live in the Village of Gingolx in the Nisga’a Nation. We do not have cell phones. We do not have high speed internet but our schools are trying to keep up with the technology front. In fact our internet we use is through our telephone lines and every time we lose power the internet goes off for about 5 days (on average). We dont have unlimited internet and some people pay into the triple digits just to be on the internet because we pay per usage. We have smartboards in most of our classrooms and a laptop 1-1 program for grade 4 and up but I feel like there can be so much more we can do to keep up with the outside world. I feel like this educational technology masters program is the right way to try and help my district and Nation continue to move forward in our classroom. In our primary classerooms we have a Smartboard but is not working and if on the “to be fixed” list but my technology used within my classroom includes “Listening to Reading” with my cd/book pairs and using a bluetooth speaker in order to listen to music in my class.

I am super excited to be a part of this program as I am the first in my family to work on my masters and come from a long line of super teachers. I also am proud to be able to hopefully make a difference in our communities when it comes to educational technologies.

Thank you for reading and I cant wait to be more involved.

  1. Hey Jessica,

I just found this now! Sorry for the late welcome, but it is nice to meet you all the same. Northern BC is amazing and feels like a totally different country, though my time up there has been sporadic and limited. The challenge of getting enough internet time there must be trying, but awesome that you are still doing it. Best of luck to you and congratulations on being First Masters in your family:)
