Assessment form: Post 2, comments 3 and 4

Hi everyone,

First of all, I would like to share with you some observations that Bob Stein (the master mind behind the Social Book) has made about our interactions with the platform, hoping that we all will find the experience more enjoyable:

“People are saying that they write fewer notes because they are more careful about posting comments that will be seen by everyone.  While everyone seems to like the fact that they are encouraged to think more deeply, I sense they would also like a way to keep some not-quite-ready-for-prime-time thoughts private. In fact there is a way to do that.  If you choose “save a draft” rather than “post” the comment will only be visible to the person who made it. And that comment can be edited and made public at any time.

The same goes for highlights.  If you select text and click “underline” and then click the close box instead of “make pubic” the highlight will remain private.  [note: i agree this is not at all obvious and a case of very bad UX design).

Someone asks “Is there a way to view only the new inline comments or updated threads instead of needing to skim through them all? ”  YES, there are two ways to do this.  Where it says “Inline” you see two numbers. The first number is the total number of initiating (top level) comments. The second is the number of NEW initiating comments; that is one’s you haven’t yet looked at. If you click the number in parentheses you will only see NEW comments.”

So, what do you think? Leave a comment in this same thread if you like.

Now, about the blog 2 and comments: By now, some of you have published your second post and by the end of next week you’ll have to respond to at least two posts from your peers (4 comments in total, so far). I have to say, there have been remarkably rich discussions after module 2 in the blog. I have been a bit off the Social Book, but I’ll try to correct that.

Just like before, please use this form to submit your posts and comments. Again, it includes instructions of how to obtain the urls from the comments, but, if the instructions are not clear enough, please let me know and I will clarify.

If you cannot see the form in your browser, please click here [+]

Some of you might be ready to fill the form, but you don’t have to until Nov 2. Remember, I won’t provide feedback/marks for this second post, but I will read them all to see if there is something urgent to address. I don’t think that will be necessary, though, you have all tackled the issues that I pointed out in the feedback of the first post.

I will post the form for the documentary next week. Some of you have already published yours (which is remarkable!), however, for my own sake I will ask you to be patient until the specific form is published to inform me the location of the assignment.

Please remember that you can consult or download the calendar file for the course [ETEC 540 Winter 2015.ics] and that there is a graphic map of the course. By the way, have you found these resources useful? Leave a short comment below if you want.

As always, if you have any question, please let me know.

Ernesto
