Video Documentary Project: Photography – A History and Brief Look at its Power to Shape Memory and Affect Culture
My video documentary is on the history of photography. As a visual thinker and learner, photographic images are very meaningful to me. Whenever I purchase a magazine, or view a website, my first course of action it to give it a quick visual scan for photos or other images, which then act as a reference point for what I’m about to experience in the text.
When researching the history of photography, it soon became apparent that over the past century and a half, photography has been a disruptive force in how we present and remember information. That force continues to this very day.
Creating this documentary was enjoyable on many fronts, but also took a tremendous amount of time. My first concern was whether or not I could fill 10 minutes with of video, which quickly became, how do I limit myself to 10 minutes. (A quick click on the link below, will reveal that I didn’t come close maintaining the time requirement.) To do the topic justice, I simply didn’t feel that I could cut any more significant sections out.
I built the entire presentation in Keynote with the expectation of exporting the slides as individual jpeg images that would be imported into iMovie. I then learned you can record a Keynote presentation within the program itself, while recording voice-over narration. This recording was then exported to iMovie for the addition of two voice-over clips provided by my good friend who does such things for a living.
I look forward to hearing your feedback.
