Literacy in a Technological Era: Extinction of Pen Pals

Here is my video documentary. I am providing links to my paper, my storyboard and the actual video. This was a definite learning experience for me and managed to do the ENTIRE project from my phone. I just upgraded to a samsung s6 edge. Pretty amazing to be able to complete this entirely from a handheld device!
Enjoy!

  1. Hi Liz:

Thanks for your project. You give some valuable insight as to why schools might reconsider abolishing handwriting from their curricula.

It seems we need to be careful to find balance – balance in using technology and in teaching what is considered “old school” as you put it. I hope that we don’t end up losing cognitive capacities that we once enjoyed in order to make more room for technology. That goes for the negotiation between print and digitization, too.

Thanks for your interesting project! I also enjoyed the Storyboard. I will have to give that a go sometime.

  2. Hello. It is pretty fantastic that you made that on your phone! I was thinking of trying that, but chickened out.
I am considering starting a marbles craze with my class. I like to balance “old school” with new technology. Low tech/high tech balance is great. Lately, however, I am feeling overwhelmed by what I don’t know about the online world and how to navigate there effectively. Your video makes me remember to relax and just keep the balance. Thank you!
