Rip.Mix. Feed – Trendy Poster

keep-calm-and-write-on-1689

For my rip.mix.feed project, I am keeping it rather simple using The Keep Calm-O-Matic site based out of the UK.  Although this site is name saked after the “Keep Calm” phenomena, editing features allow for extensive variations in poster creations.  I can attest that its user friendly set-up allowed for me to “keep calm” through the whole creative process. 🙂

In order to design a poster, the user needs to set up an account.  From there, editing selections can be made for wording, background, colour, etc. I chose to use my own photo as the background and briefly altered the wording and font. Once designed, the poster can be shared through social media including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+.  The poster can also be downloaded onto the desktop.  As well, a “private” option is available if not desiring to share with the masses.  I chose to share my poster through my very quiet Twitter account.

One of the more uniques features of this site is the opportunity for the “public” to vote on a favourite “poster-of-the-day”.  So far, I have received zero votes. 🙂

Overall, this site is an easy and fun way to share with others witty, encouraging, and even thought-provoking ideas through a low stress, calm inducing, writing space.

  1. Great poster! I will have to check out that site. There is a lot of irony-given the popularity of the phrase now–that “Keep Calm and Carry On” was never actually released in WWII. Maybe it just reverberates more in our chronically stressed culture and so we have adopted it.

  2. Good idea, Jessica! We see these posters everywhere and it is one of those universally understood symbols, which is really interesting in its ability to be recognized across cultures:

I don’t understand either of these, so I hope they aren’t offensive! But I am pretty sure they are just translations of the usual “keep calm and carry on”. Anyway, thought it was interesting how this has been adopted cross culturally.

    • Rochelle,

Thanks for sharing the cross-cultural samples of posters. Perhaps somewhat like music, a visual representation can be more universal…

  3. HI Jessica,

I love the simplicity and clarity behind the message your poster portrays. I think the fact the the “Keep Calm…” poster series has a universal recognition and familiarity associated with it, makes your image especially appealing. I also like that you included various writing tools on your poster, in a manner that is both subtle and powerful. Great work!

    • Thanks, Natalie. The blending of the writing tools was an accident when I initially took the photo, but I thought it worked well too… subtly. 🙂
