Maxim Fishman: Introduction
Hi Everyone,
My name is Maxim Fishman and this course represents the conclusion of my journey across the MET program. Its been a very great experience and has exposed me to a wealth of concepts and people that I’m happy to say will leave a lasting impact on my educational practice.
For work, I’m the Director of Customer Education at a start up called Vend. We have our own cloud based Point of Sale software that we sell globally; our customers are retailers of small and medium sized businesses. My role is to see that our customers are taught not only how to use our software but also how to be to good retailers in general.
I included the comic from the Farside to demonstrate something which has been of great interest to me over the years: not explaining ideas properly so that others can understand them. Its something we all do every day and it is something that I find a constant challenge professionally. My target audience is extremely diverse with the only thing in common is they are very busy and want to be successful in business. As I’m teaching both software and business skills, the challenge is to create education/training that adequately explains and idea without leaving room for misunderstanding. My goal is to explain concepts to them at a level which they all can understand. The global nature of my audience increases the complexity of this task as regional difference do make an impact on concepts are explained.
The role of text and its use in online media literacy is of particular interest to me as I explore new and perhaps simpler methods of conveying information to learners. I’m intrigued where this course will take my understanding text based technologies and what intellectual connections between ideas it will foster.
I’m looking forward to this course.
Best Wishes
Maxim
Welcome to ETEC 540 Maxim!
Maxim, I couldn’t agree more that it is constantly a challenge to explain things to that others understand them. This phenomenon is not limited to the world of ventures but is also ever-present in educational contexts as educators attempt to share practices with those who may not be willing to change their own.
Hope you enjoy the course and congratulations for making it to the end of the road!
