As your course instructor, I am committed to providing structured and meaningful, graduate level support. I recognize that isn’t always as accessible in a large asynchronous course, however, to remediate that distance, I am committed to holding office hours at ANY TIME that is convenient for you. This could mean I jump on a chat in Slack, Zoom, Teams, Google, or whatever works best for you. Please do ask me questions and for support! I’m here for you!

Important Dates:

Monday, January 5th at 5:00pm Pacific Standard Time: Syllabus Tour Online LIVE! I will be online on to walk you through the syllabus (should you so choose) and answer any questions you might have. This isn’t mandatory, but it would be great to see you then!

Sunday, January 18th:  IP #1 is due –this is a “calibration exercise” so you can see how I mark and what my expectations are for the intellectual productions and how I can support you to do your best work.

Sunday, January 25th: All game groups should be determined by – Each game group should set up a project channel in Slack.

Sunday, January 25th: IP #2 (option 8, required)  is due — this will help you prepare for your game design work/get you thinking about play and games.

Early February: A Zoom check-in scheduled as a time for you to ask any questions you may have about the course, the group project (Fullerton exercises, Proposal), and also to confirm your group formation.

Sunday, February 8th:, the Collaborative GAME GROUP Exercise from FULLERTON DUE.

Sunday, February 22nd:, the GAME GROUP DESIGN DOCUMENT is DUE. (This is your group’s game design/development proposal, 1000-1500 words, plus images etc. as needed)

Early March: Another “Check in”, scheduled for . I’ll be online to answer questions/talk final projects and the field not assignment.

Sunday, March 15th: Field note/video game play exercise due .

Late March: One final Zoom check is scheduled to answer any questions about remaining assignments, the group project, and project presentations.

Week of March 30th, Day/time TBA: Final Project Presentation and “proof of concept” game due.

Sunday, April 12th: IPs #3, 4 and 5 ( Free choice, topics 2-7) are due.

Sunday, April 12th: Individual game project ‘retrospective” due.

Sunday, April 12th: All outstanding work is due.

Reminder — IPs and the fieldnote exercise should be posted to your own websites and the link sent via Slack to your course instructor (Sam). Please make sure to notify me when you have completed an assignment and I will do my best to get you speedy feedback.
