Request an LMS account

Choose an LMS for your course project and request a shell if necessary. Having an LMS account means that you will be (1) a shell owner – with the primary instructor editing privileges for this shell; (2) a secondary instructor will be added to your shell – that is your ETEC 565 course instructor – in Moodle, Edge.edX and BbConnect, (3) a Dummy Student will be added to your shell, so your classmates can access your project in Moodle and BbConnect (via a DS login+password); In order to make your Edge.edX and Eliademy projects accessible you have to “publish” your project or “make it live”,  and then to share the URL of your project on the discussion board “Course Projects Collection”.

If you plan on working with several LMS, please send all the requests to the instructor in one e-mail, following the request format for each.

There is no time limit for the UBC students in accessing the individual WordPress, Edge.edX, Moodle and BbConnect shells hosted by the UBC.

The course shells hosted by the UBC – Edge EdX, BbConnect and Moodle –  have to be set up by the system administrators. Send the LMS request to your instructor via e-mail include the information needed to set up your shell.

Edge edX is hosted on servers in the United States; it is integrated for the UBC campus courses and UBC students;  FIPPA privacy regulations allow students to use a pseudonym when creating an account.

1. To get the Edge shell, submit your request from this page: http://flexible.learning.ubc.ca/about-edx-edge/edx-edge-shell-request/  .

Edge EdX then will send you an email asking you to verify your email address by clicking on a link. Once you verify the address, please remember the email address and username you used for this account, as you will need to provide that to the instructor.

Please note: edge.edx.org (the UBC hosted platform, not open to the “world”) is a different website than edx.org (edx Inc) . Even if you already have an account on edx.org you will still need to create one on its UBC hosted version edge.edx.org.

2. Send your instructor your Edge.edX username and an e-mail address associated with your Edge shell.

Name Edge edX Public Name e-mail address

3. When the shell is ready, you will receive a confirmation email. You will then be able to access the blank shell by logging-into http://studio.edge.edx.org .

No requests are needed for creating course shells with WordPress, Eliademy, or Quizworks

Set up your account on the UBC blogs WordPress portal (use your CWL), and start working with it to create your ePortfolio site. In this course we rely on the WordPress as a Service model which means that all of the software and server support is provided in a centralized way across the UBC.
