1 Response to LMS Evaluative Quiz

  1. Moodle LMS Quiz Reflection

My Moodle LMS is a learning unit designed to support the conceptual understanding of rectangular geometry (grade 6). I have designed this LMS with an assumption that it will be presented in a blended learning environment, where students are receiving synchronous instruction and assessment either f2f, or online. This final assessment is designed with feedback features and tools (e.g., teacher checklist, student reflection) that will encourage students to think about their performance, and whether they are meeting an expected standard.

My intention was to complete this evaluative quiz much sooner, but I found it quite difficult to visualize what the quiz would look like when I haven’t completed much of the content of the LMS. I decided to hold off on the design of the quiz, and rather, focus on the content of the learning platform. I believe in using formative assessment to guide instruction, and one lesson I have learned from this pedagogy is that it’s much easier to hit a target when you know what that target is. Once the majority of the LMS content was in place, the quiz was much easier to design.

When you peruse this evaluative quiz, I think you will find an assessment that asks a young learner to embrace language, engage in mathematics, and reflect on their unique learning style. I believe this quiz would be difficult to complete without going through a learning environment that is heavily based on formative assessment, or assessment for learning (AFL). I do not believe this quiz is perfect, and I would like to see a stronger presence of problem (inquiry) based questions. I have the same critique of my Moodle LMS as a whole, and will be looking for greater ways to engage students in rich inquiry.
