Through this week’s reflection, the group’s OER brought me to wrap my head around podcasting.

Provided these reflection questions, I put my thoughts on the line:

Considering what you already know about podcasts and podcasting, we invite you participate in one of the following discussions:

  1. Recommend one podcast: give a brief one to two sentence summary of the podcast’s focus and a brief statement as to how you understand it’s educational value.
  2. Highlight some of the benefits and challenges of Podcasting in the Classroom? Consider the consumption vs creation of podcasts by students and teachers?

I haven’t been a fan of podcast in the past, but through this exercise, I found a few interesting reflection/discussion. Some of the benefits are mentioned up here (accessibility, learner centered, free stuff, etc.) One that I found, http://www.jackstreet.com/jackstreet/WEDC.Chat1-12-16.cfm (Personalized Learning Versus Age-Based Instruction), from Bam!EdchatRadio. It talks about Education, comparing personalized learning vs age-based learning, which reprsents many of our classrooms now. I found it was relevant to think about personalized learning today. This one is more oriented towards teachers. It offers flexibility to the listener. They can pause and play the podcast; play it on their own device, when and where needed.
Now, I think some advantages to podcast are the control the learner has over this piece. This podcast is talking about personalized learning and I believe it does support this reflection where the educator have access to learning on demand andhe pick what he needs. I belive this is one aspect of podcast that is interesting.
