5. A Digital Story

I was initially exposed to Prezi when working on a group project in a previous MET course.  I thought the overall effect was dynamic, and very interesting.  When confronted with a Flight Plan for this course, I included Prezi as one of the technologies I hoped to explore as I negotiated through the course, thinking it would fit in nicely somewhere in my Moodle course.  As fate would have it, Prezi was an option to use in this Digital Story, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now I will not go so far as to say I know everything, or anything, about what affordances Prezi offers, but I have capitalized on two.  As a mathematics teacher, linearity and review are key components of content delivery, and Prezi dovetails into both of these nicely.  The slide to slide presentation offers sufficient guidance as a user progresses through a Prezi, and yet is flexible enough to allow a learner to go back and review as necessary.  Embedded video or web-page links allow additional review and scaffolding, and allow competent learners to extend their learning activities. While this digital story is not mathematics based, learning modules like factoring and linear relations, where a central concept connected to tentacles of applications are high on my list for future Prezi presentations.

The Digital Story that I created tells the story of a family vacation to Egypt in December of 2003.  The vacation had three major components, and significant travel between and within these components.  I believe that Prezi captures the notion of travel and movement very well.  Our vacation was linear in that it occurred day to day, yet was not linear in that we circled through Egypt, moving from place to place.

Lastly, and perhaps less important to the criteria of this assignment, this is a Digit Story created for my two children, especially my daughter.  She was quite young when she experience this amazing vacation, and did not appreciate everything we did.  Created with much love, this Prezi is all about the wonderful learning experiences that occur when families travel together.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we all did.
