Assignment 1 Reflection

Working on this project was really straight forward for our group. Our group of three was put together because we all had a desire to explore a new LMS platform (Eliademy) that could be suitable for secondary students. Since we all had the same vision it made it fairly easy for us to move forward with our evaluation. All of us are nearing our last MET courses, so we were all familiar with group work and used Google documents to share our product progress. We each contributed equal components to the project and kept in check with each other through e-mail as our group spanned across the time zones of Canada. My partners, made me aware of some new perspectives and opinions as they brought their different realms of expertise to the table.

Welcome!

My name is Rebecca Skucas and this is my e-Portfolio for ETEC565A. I am currently enrolled in the Master of Education Technology program at UBC and this is course number seven. As part of assignment#4 I will be posting my reflections and observations of my experiences with the course activities here.

Education and Job

I started my MET journey in 2013 after teaching for a few years and having the desire to develop my personal learning network and knowledge of different technologies for teaching. I also wanted to connect with other educational professionals to learn their practices to aid in my own personal development. I currently work in Vancouver as a grade 6/7 teacher. I have a science and education degree and have been teaching for the past 8 years. I enjoy incorporating different technology tools into my teaching practice as I find it helps teachers connect their students by bringing the learning to them and also allowing students to reach out to the world around them. In the schools that I have worked at, iPads carts are readily available and are what I have used predominately in my teaching. I have used iPads to explore different apps to help develop a wide base for presentation styles through apps such as Explain Everything, Prezi, Keynote, and iMovie. I have started to incorporate some aspects of Google classroom into my teaching as well and would love to expand in this area. I look forward to challenging myself and learning from everyone else has to offer.
