ePortfolio Assessment Rubric (ETEC 590)
Considering that this is the development of a rubric for a master’s program in education I believe that this rubric could easily reflect the rubrics designed by the BC Ministry of Education; therefore, I created a three column rubric representing “not yet meets”, “meets” and “exceeds expectations” seems to be appropriate.
In what ways did the purpose of this ePortfolio shape the assessment rubric and is reflected in it?
My understanding was that the criteria used to develop this rubric would help to shape my e-Portfolio while at the same time providing a framework to guide me in meeting the ePortfolio outcomes required for this ETEC 590 course. The rubric that I created here will provide me with the opportunity for self-assessment (Cambridge, 2001) and peer review.
Moon (2005) tells us that most ePortfolios involve some reflective activity ranging from collections of coursework and readings with reflective comments, to coursework with an attached overview, to something very akin to a learning journal. Because I will have reflected on my personal and professional growth I believe that that I will need to provide a deeper level of reflection. Moon (2005) also stated that the underlying intention [of an ePortfolio] will enable me to learn from my experiences where the learning was more informal.
Chau & Cheng (2010) and Cook (2004) state in their research that the development of an ePortfolio should include self-identified goals, objectives and choice of artifacts that portray technological skills appropriate to the task. I believe this to be important in the ePortfolio and I have therefore included this in my rubric.
Gibson & Barrett (2003) tell us that the use of a metaphor provides an organizational flexibility, flexibility in visual appearance of content and ideas, and the ability to represent content in multiple ways. Therefore, in this eP I have included NSTE standards, key concepts, interdisciplinary connections as well as making connections to my coursework and to my professional work life.
Finally, I have discussed the incorporation of various educational technologies and their usefulness in providing learning environments that facilitate student learning that is engaging, meets their individual needs, and provides for the flexibility to learn at their own rate and in their own way.
