The beginning of the 2009/10 Winter term is just around the corner, which means that the launch of the EIESL campaign is fast approaching!
Become a part of an important movement to illuminate issues of ethics, health and development, and student engagement. Join the EIESL volunteer team!
The blurbs below describe focus-areas and outputs of the EIESL project. We are looking for student involvement during the planning process in August as well as the implementation stages throughout the 2009/10 Winter term. Send a message to ethicsofisl@gmail.com if any of these areas are of interest to you.
Website and Blog: Assist with the maintenance and content of the current blog and explore other possibilities for an ‘online presence’. Develop a web-based guide-book for students, faculty, and community stakeholders highlighting best practices within ISL.
Awareness Campaign and Marketing: Explore different methods of raising awareness about the EIESL project. Promotion and marketing for the fall campaign.
Dialogue Series: Contribute to the creation of dialogue series for UBC students and faculty in order to identify and respond to the ethical implications of international engagement and service learning. Potential topics include: community disruption, stereotyping, disrespectful behaviour, dependency relationships, and practicing clinical skills without qualification.
Literature/Knowledge Review and Resources: Research resources and materials for the awareness campaign and dialogue series. Identify literature and materials that will contribute to other areas of the project (for example: developing ‘best practices’ materials, course reading lists, workshop content, etc.)
AMS Student Group: Build communication with the AMS and various student groups on campus. Help establish the EIESL project as an AMS club.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Scholarship: Collect, record and review feedback from project participants in order to monitor and evaluate the impact of the initiative. Explore ways to develop and implement workshops using the information gathered from the dialogue series.
Community Partner Liaison: Build communication with community partners, such as international service learning organizations and non-governmental organizations.
