But<br \/>\ngood luck doesn&#8217;t even fall in a fine drizzle, no matter<br \/>\nhow hard the nobodies summon it, even if their left hand is<br \/>\ntickling, or if they begin the new day with their right foot, or<br \/>\nstart the new year with a change of brooms.<br \/>\nThe nobodies: nobody&#8217;s children, owners of nothing. The<br \/>\nnobodies: the no ones, the nobodied, running like rabbits,<br \/>\ndying through life, screwed every which way.<br \/>\nWho don&#8217;t speak languages, but dialects.<br \/>\nWho don&#8217;t have religions, but superstitions.<br \/>\nWho don&#8217;t create art, but handicrafts.<br \/>\nWho don&#8217;t have culture, but folklore.<br \/>\nWho are not human beings, but human resources.<br \/>\nWho do not have names, but numbers.<br \/>\nWho do not appear in the history of the world, but in the<br \/>\npolice blotter of the local paper.<br \/>\nThe nobodies, who are not worth the bullet that kills them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Eduardo Galeano Fleas dream of buying themselves a dog, and nobodies dream of escaping poverty: that one magical day good luck will suddenly rain down on them- will rain down in buckets.
