{"id":20,"date":"2011-05-15T18:44:55","date_gmt":"2011-05-16T02:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/eunyup\/?p=20"},"modified":"2011-06-07T06:27:33","modified_gmt":"2011-06-07T14:27:33","slug":"20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/eunyup\/2011\/05\/15\/20\/","title":{"rendered":"COMM296 Starbucks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Starbucks is on every corner!<br \/>\nAt the intersection of Robson and Thurlow, there are two Starbucks across from each other.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the picture from Google map<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/eunyup\/files\/2011\/05\/Starbucks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23\" title=\"Starbucks\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/eunyup\/files\/2011\/05\/Starbucks.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"436\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The interesting thing (at least to me)\u00a0about these two starbucks is that although both are located in the same intersection, it seems that one is targeting\u00a0fairly\u00a0different segment from another in terms of marketing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First of all, as you might know, one has a patio, but the other doesn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>The one on the left side<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/eunyup\/files\/2011\/05\/Patio.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-25\" title=\"Patio\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/eunyup\/files\/2011\/05\/Patio-300x137.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"437\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n(I guess people from\u00a0Red Robin\u00a0would come down\u00a0here and enjoy\u00a0coffee\u00a0while they&#8217;re waiting)<\/p>\n<p>Another on the right side<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/eunyup\/files\/2011\/05\/No-Patio.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-24\" title=\"No Patio\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/eunyup\/files\/2011\/05\/No-Patio-300x142.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"435\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From this point, I&#8217;ll just\u00a0call the store with a\u00a0patio as\u00a0starbucks A, and the other without patio\u00a0as Starbucks B, for the convinient reason.<\/p>\n<p>In addtion to\u00a0the patio,\u00a0I&#8217;d like to point out\u00a0a\u00a0couple\u00a0more\u00a0different strategies\u00a0between Starbucks A and B.<\/p>\n<p>1. Table arrangement<\/p>\n<p>At starbucks A, tables are mostly\u00a0round-shaped and randomly distributed, so people could sit around and talk. On the other hand, tables at Starbuck B are square and nicely\u00a0arranged, \u00a0so people could use their laptop and study more comfortably.<\/p>\n<p>2. Power Outlets<\/p>\n<p>Actually, I am now at Starbucks B,\u00a0so let me count how many outlets are\u00a0around me&#8230; I found\u00a06 power sockets\u00a0and I&#8217;m pretty\u00a0sure there&#8217;d be more. What about Starbucks A? Well, considering its limited\u00a0space, I believe\u00a0there&#8217;d be less.<\/p>\n<p>Since\u00a0I couldn&#8217;t find\u00a0any coffee shops within a block from these two Starbucks\u00a0coffee shops,\u00a0it seems that\u00a0they are dominating\u00a0cetain part of the downtown area. And I believe this kind of\u00a0success\u00a0wouldn&#8217;t\u00a0be seen easily\u00a0downtown.\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0wondering\u00a0how much further\u00a0starbucks could\u00a0expand their market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Starbucks is on every corner!
