Classroom Management

  1. Establish routines for transitions and make them a habit
  2. Teach and vary attention grabbers (alarms, music, clapping patterns or counting)
  3. Wait time is incredibly important- give students time to calm themselves down before speaking or they may miss instructions
  4. Use a whistle during Physical Education, especially if you do not have a loud voice
  5.  When giving students instructions, only give 1-3 of them and ask students to repeat them to ensure that they understand what is being asked of them
  6. Add humor to lessons so that students are more engaged
  7. Incorporate real life examples to enhance relevancy and immediacy
  8. Expectation and rubrics should be clear and concise
  9. Follow through with consequences for negative behavior
  10. Offer positive reinforcements and feedback so that students can do their best work
