Students were then shown this image of my drawing of a bird and were asked to show a representation of their own connection to nature using the Haida art techniques that we covered, such as the drawing with ovoids. Social and Emotional Lesson- I read this story to my students and they were expected to ask questions and make connections to their lives. Social and Emotional Lesson- After reading the story, “Nasreen’s Secret School: A True Story From Afghanistan,” I handed out post-it notes for students to write out any questions that they had and to write about how they would lend a “helping hand” to a new student who was going through a trauma that was similar to Nasreen’s; how would they help them fit in? Art – Pop-up Card, Pointillism, Georgia O’Keeffe’s flowers, and Picasso’s cubism. Drama exit slip – to assess participation and behaviour French- Shape of the Lesson, music, games and oral work to teach students how to speak the language. For one of the experiments, we analyzed a variety of synthetic urine samples that I created to look, smell and react the same way as actual urine. Teacher Directed Writing- I taught students about a variety of different writing styles, such as “Mystery Story Writing.” During Daily 5, students were expected to write their own stories as a part of the Choice Write segment. Math- For my Transformations unit, I incorporated a lot of real life examples to make my lessons more relevant and immediate for my students. HACE- We focused on healthy relationships. For this particular assignment, students were expected to show me in words and pictures what a healthy community looks, sounds and feels like.
