Building Community<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Emotions! \u2013 Rock, Paper, Scissors<\/u><\/strong>– normalizes emotions<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Students walk around and show the following emotions in the order listed below:<\/li>\n
  2. Surprised<\/li>\n
  3. Worked<\/li>\n
  4. Disgusted<\/li>\n
  5. Angry<\/li>\n
  6. Sad<\/li>\n
  7. Happy<\/li>\n
  8. Students find a partner and play: rock, paper, scissors – if they win, they move on to the next emotion and repeat the first two steps until they make it to \u201chappy\u201d<\/li>\n
  9. Can only play against someone with the same emotion<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Feeling Thumb Balls<\/u><\/strong>– Teaches students how to name the emotions they are feeling- resilience<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Throw the ball to a person<\/li>\n
    2. The other student catches it and looks at what emotion their thumb touches<\/li>\n
    3. Game 1: What feeling am I showing? (show by acting)<\/li>\n
    4. Game 2: What feeling are you hearing? (show it by saying \u201cJelly Beans\u201d)<\/li>\n
    5. Game 3: What feeling is the story? (tell a story that shows the emotion)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \n
      • NOTE: Since thumb balls can be expensive, a teacher can purchase a small soft ball from the dollar store, and write emotions on the white parts of the ball<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Hi Five!<\/u><\/strong>– To connect with students and learn their names<\/p>\n

          \n
        1. Hi 5 a student and say, \u201cHi! My name is ___________!\u201d Wait for their reply of the same thing: \u201cHi! My name is __________!\u201d<\/li>\n
        2. Say, \u201cIt\u2019s nice to meet you!\u201d<\/li>\n
        3. Move on to the next person<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
