I think problems arise when expectations are not clear and there is a lack of communication. A key aspect of preventing problems is establishing the lines of communication and keeping them open. When everyone understands what is expected of them and what they need to do to meet those expectations, and openly voice their questions or concerns, there should be very few opportunities for problems to occur. I will strive to always make my expectations and instructions clear. I will also let my students know that whenever they feel confused or frustrated, they need to express that clearly so I know that they more support and I can offer it to them.
Another source of problems is lack of respect. I hope to instill in my students the idea that respect is one of the most important aspects of life in the classroom and in general. I will respect them by preparing engaging lesson materials, providing them with guidance and feedback, and listening to their concerns, and in return they should respect me as well as each other.
Respect also leads to trust, which is another important part of maintaining good relationships. By constantly having the students work with each other and making myself available to answer any questions, I will build a sense of trust in the classroom so that the students feel supported by each other and myself. When people feel they can trust others to support them, problems are less likely to occur.
