Best Works

This page will showcase some of the works I have completed throughout the ENGL 301 course.

1. Revised Definitions Assignments

In this assignment, the task is to create a simple definition writing about a term in a technical field. I chose to use the term “bug” in the field of computer science. The purpose is to explain this term to audiences who are not familiar with this field. The three different definitions are covered in parenthetical definition, sentence definition, and expanded definition.

2. Revised Peer Review of the Definition Assignment

Following the completion of the previous definitions assignment, we were asked to peer review a group member’s work. It was interesting to see how other people present their term through detailed explanations. This process allows us to give and receive constructive criticism on our work and our peer’s work.

3. Revised Formal Report Proposal and Progress Report with Surveys

The link below takes you to my formal report proposal. The purpose of this report proposal is to provide recommendations for enhancing the proper use of sorting stations at UBC by introducing sorting station employees to increase campus wide sustainability.

4. Revised Proposal Memo

This is my email memorandum to the instructor about the completion of my research proposal. This memorandum highlights the summary of my proposal, which includes: introduction, statement of the problem, proposed solution, scope of the research, qualifications, and concluding thoughts.

5. Revised LinkedIn Best Practices Memo

This is the memo highlighting why LinkedIn is a good social platform in professional settings. Many of us will need to use LinkedIn in our professional careers and this memo will list 10 best practices for using LinkedIn. Some examples include: choosing the right profile picture, adding video visualizations, comments on shared contents, list all the skills you have, reach out to recruiters, and stay active.

6. Revised Memo to Evan Crisp

This memo addressed to Evan Crisp consist of introducing the concept of writing with a YOU-attitude. The purpose of this writing is to give suggestions on how to email a professor to request for a placement in their class using a YOU-attitude. For example, making the reader feel important is essential in successful communications.

7. Revised Complaint Letter and Response Letter

This assignment consists of writing two different letters: complaint letter and response letter. This task also provides us a chance to practice writing with a YOU-attitude and a professional tone. My complaint letter was directed towards UberEats about not receiving a proper order. The response letter will highlight the response from UberEats regarding this matter. This is my favorite assignment because it is interesting to write a complaint letter and answer it with a response letter to myself.

8. Revised Peer Review of a Formal Report

The peer review process is necessary and important for the formal report. I struggle with writing in present tense and using the YOU-attitude. Thankful to Hansol Yang, my partner in the peer review process, who reviewed my report and provided me constructive criticism. I have also reviewed his report on improving UBC students’ experiences in hybrid courses, and I was impressed with his data analytic skills and the detailed information that his report presents.

9. Revised Formal Report

This report is one of the biggest components of this course. The purpose of this report is to investigate, analyze, and recommendation to a problem that we have been apart of. My report is written to UBC sustainability, to improve the efficiency of recycling stations on the UBC campus. Along with my report, a survey was conducted to UBC students and staff, to generate feedback on the current state of the efficiency of recycling stations. The recommendation is to hire personnel to manage the sorting stations. The whole process of researching, surveying, and data analysis is not too difficult, but the challenge is to put all the information together while writing with the proper tone and with a YOU-attitude.
