Body/Land recalibration (4)

Holding the heavy and difficult content of this course requires your body to be nourished, tuned and rhythmically balanced. The basic practices below are recommendations that can help you de-center (the ego), disarm (affective landmines), declutter (your gut, heart and headspace) and disinvest in harmful patterns. The practices may feel very different each time you do them so we suggest that you commit to repeating them more than once (ideally on a daily basis through this period). You may want to stick to only one of the practices and/or try them all, and repeat at least one of them consistently.

Food:

The invitation is for you to sprout  a handful of dry chickpeas this week (see instructions here). Every day,  as you change the water 3 times a day, build a relationship with the chickpeas (e.g. say  “good morning” or “thank you” every day)  and witness their sprouting rite of passage. When the chickpeas have sprouted, eat the chickpeas with deep gratitude for their lives, for all the beings that give up their lives so that you can live and all the beings that work hard inside of you, to help you stay alive. Notice the sound of metabolising chickpeas as it leaves your body.

Sound:

During this week try once a day the following practice:  While standing up with unlocked knees and dropped shoulders, Inhale and exhale deeply for 3 breaths. After the third breath as you exhale make the lowest possible register you can make with your voice, and sustain this sound for a whole out breath. As you do this, notice what places in your body resonate, and specifically, try to listen with the soles of your feet.  Make this sound at least five times in a row and, as you do this, remember you are an extension of the earth, not the other way around.

Movement:

This movement exercise reminds us that we are not only entangled across space but also across time (as time is multi-layered – both linear,  non-linear, and more). The invitation is for you to dance to this song with a different ancestor everyday for a week. Connect with your future ancestors (from your blood line or not, human or not) and find a way to make them present for you. Lock eyes and dance with this ancestor without performing or projecting. Try to sense into what they are asking of you in terms of embracing responsibility for this current time you are living in . Song: Oeaho (Quechua)
