EBay’s competitors

Blog link: https://blogs.ubc.ca/elizabethguan/2013/09/25/dotdotbuyandtaoba/

I totally agree with Elizabeth Guan’s idea that both of the price and quality of the product that selling on eBay is poor. Many of the individual sellers set extremely high price to their product. EBay is same as many of the online trading platform, which is business to consumers, sellers can sell the product to their consumers directly without other delivering fee and poundage.

And eBay is a very international trading platform, which means all the consumers can buy the product from other countries easily and everyone can use PayPal to pay the fees. That’s convent for both of the consumers and sellers. However the shipping fee is really high. And their reputation has been damaged.

So as a Chinese consumer, I prefer to buy the goods on other trading website rather than eBay. And actually there are many competitive trading website are much better than eBay. So I don’t think eBay will be really successful in the long run anymore if the operator try to find some way to cutting their shipping fees and control the quality and price of some seller’s product and services. EBay should change their strategies and they can try to expand more market to China. And build good reputation, build consumer loyalty to have long term growth is important for them.

$5.7 billion spent in ‘Cyber Monday’ on Alibaba’s Tmall

Link to a blog: http://spring.io/blog/2013/03/04/spring-at-china-scale-alibaba-group-alipay-taobao-and-tmall/

China’s 11/11 online shop fest – the country’s equivalent of America’s Cyber Monday – has just finished. It’s been a record-smashing mega-sale on hundreds of e-stores. They have a grand total of $5.7 billion (RMB 35.02 billion) spent in the course of just 24 hours.

i agree with Josh Long’s idea. Many of the Chinese online consumers wait a few months for these big discount online shopping festival. And many of the online sellers sacrifice profits margins for extremely high sales revenue to attract more consumers. All these evidences show that the china’s e-commerce market is booming. And Alibaba also has over $35 million in sales on Tmall on 11/11 in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and all other areas outside of Mainland China. Which means they also have chance to expand the market to outside of china.

However, as for a consumer, although discount is beneficial because consumer can save lots of money and just need stay at home and shopping online, the quality of both of the services and goods are bad during these periods of time. And these have had a bad effect on the consumers that actually don’t shopping in Tmall. Because the speed and efficiency of express delivery services in whole china will be worse. So that will also demage the reputation of those online sellers.

The launch of new PS vita 2000

Recently, Sony launches the new product of their video game consoles family: the PS vita 2000. All the fans of video game might be familiar with the Sony’s high quality video games consoles. And these days Sony has launch the new PS games console: the new PS vita 20000. Sony did a lot of advertisement of it and also setting a lower price of Vita 2000 than Vita 1000.

Unfortunately, after the released day of vita, many consumers have the reflection that the screen of vita is not good and they think the quality of vita 1000 is better. The sales of new vita are low and the price of it reduced a lot. That makes many consumers surprised.

I just find out that the reason of the fail of Sony this time: the games that can be played on this vita is much less than the games that can be played in PSP console. The machine is not the most important thing, the game is much more important. Although the new vita looks good and also have higher quality, more consumers will prefer the old PSP. But I believe after several years, many games will launch the vita versions the sales of vita will be recovered.

Half price of bucket of KFC

As everyone knows, in China, KFC is more popular than MacDonald. Because KFC has lunched several types of fast food, which are cater to Chinese tastes. And the bucket of KFC is the most popular product in the Chinese market because the price is relatively low compare to other meal package.

In recent days, KFC launch a new half price bucket. This new cheap product is popular but after few days, there are many consumers responses that this new bucket actually have bad taste and both the quality and quantity is worse than the original bucket. And some customers said the quality of services is terrible when they asked for the half-priced bucket.

Personally, although the sales revenue of KFC will increased after they sell this new bucket because many consumers want try this cheap worthy meal, the reputation of KFC will be damaged due to the bad quality. Most of the consumers will be willing to pay more and get better food. The new bucket might be more worthy than before. KFC want get profit from more sale revenue but not more profit earned from selling each unit of product. But whether this strategy will be really successful in the future is largely depend on the consumers.

Japan’s anime industry

The Japan’s anime industry has grown significantly over these years, the market already expanded outside of Japan. People’s living standard has improved a lot during these years more and more young people are willing to pay for it to have spiritual enjoyment.

Animation planning design company get investment from investors and cut cost by outsourcing the production to other anime production company. And if the audience ratings are high, investors and TV station can earn much profit from the advertisement fees and get charged if that’s premium channel. After showing anime to the public, anime company will released the DVD and selling some original paintings to other companies that producing the relative products of anime. Many of the famous animation has been translated to other languages and released in other countries. Licenses are expensive; the licenses of some high popularity work can be hundreds of thousands of dollars for one series. The revenue that company get from exporting copyright, licenses and anime products to other countries occupy large percentage of Japan’s GDP. Anime industries also provide many job opportunities that alleviate the problem of high unemployment rate in Japan.

However the cost of anime production is really high, the industry also might fell into decline in the future if people’s taste has changed a lot.

Housing price in Vancouver

blog link: https://blogs.ubc.ca/tianyirong/2013/10/16/increase-in-housing-price/

I agree with Rong’s opinion in some extent but I believe whether the housing price in Vancouver will increase in the future still depends.

There is some buyers are waiting for the depreciation of the value of housing in Vancouver because Department of Finance Canada impose restrictions on terms of the credit loan, cut down length on the loan. They banned the buyer of the house that has value of more than million dollars to apply for the loan insurances. Which decreased the demand of high-priced housing, many potential consumers cannot afford and just can buy the apartment with lower prices or renting house in suburbs. And the department of immigration suspends investment immigration applications.

The demand of the housing in Richmond decreased a lot after the 2011 japan tsunami because Richmond is low-lying areas and more costumers prefer housing in Burnaby. Large amount of demand of housing in Vancouver comes form the rich Asian emigrations. And the supply of new housing is decrease these years because both suppliers and customers are not confident about the market of housing with flexible price.

So in my opinion, although more and more immigration move to developed countries such as America and Canada, the price of housing won’t always increased a lot. There are many other factors and government policy will change the price of housing.

The economic influences that created from China’s national day.

Golden week is the name given to a semi-annual 7-day national holiday of China’s national day. Chinese government give those 7-day national holiday to Chinese people to celebrate the founding of China and also try to use this chance to drive the economy growth and stimulate the domestic demand.

During this 7-day holiday, People’s demand and consumption for transportation, housing, catering and tourism will increase rapidly. Just like the national day this year, tens of millions of tourists visit hundreds of tourist attraction to get nearly 2 billion yuan of tourism revenue.

However, I just find out that national day also brings some negative effect to China. The quality of services of most of the business is poor, events of consumer rights infringement are happening each day. These will also damage the goodwill of those businesses, which is detrimental to their long-term growth and actually reduced people’s living standard.

Overall, whether the national day holiday is beneficial for the community still depends on the performance of some business in some extent. And people should remain calm and behaved sensibly throughout the national holiday.

Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Tokyo won its bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics. Japan has a problem of ageing for many years and there is a budget deficit and large amount of government debt. Government expenditure excesses the tax revenue. Host the Olympics is a good chance for the Japanese government to rebuild economic growth.

Government already decided to increase the sales tax to 8 percent from 5 percent next April, and to 10 percent in 2015. I believe that in the next few years, the unemployment rate of Japan will decreased a lot because the development of manufacturing industry and tourism of Japan will provide more job opportunities for the workers. However the inflation rate will rise due to higher tax rate, the reduction of people’ real income and the appreciation of yen. And Japanese government need to face to the problem of how to get enough capital to improve the infrastructure and build the new stadium.

Whether the 2020 Olympics will bring positive effects to Japan are still depends on many other external and internal factors. Personally it’s just a bad news for me because I need to spend more to buy the imported products.
