Consumer writing was a valuable learning opportunity for me in FNH 381. It was a rewarding experience to write a blog for a client and learn about the practice of a registered dietician. Maryam and I chose Hemp Fertility as our topic because hemp is gaining significant attention in the scientific community and public. In particular, we were interested in the effect of the hemp on fertility. The registered dietician assigned to us runs a private practice in fertility. She also works with companies and this article is to be posted on her client’s website. They sell hemp seed products. In our meeting, she provided us with scientific papers on the topic to review and firsthand knowledge on the topic. I gained knowledge both on hemp and fertility and nutrition based writing for the public. Through this assignment, my partner and I translated scientific information into simple language for the targeted audience. I look forward to many more insightful interactions and discussions with professionals in my fourth year in the Dietetics program.
