Hands For Eyes

A new generation of young artists considers the rich territory of textiles, fibre-art and soft sculpture, reasserting the power of the needle and tangible materials to communicate their ideas and vision. In Hands for Eyes, personal histories, cultural traditions, socio-political, and formal themes serve as reference points for this group of 2nd-year Sculpture students who created work grounded in traditional methods of making but interwoven with their contemporary contexts. From hybrid practices merging drawing & needlework with compositional meritto re–purposing readymade textiles, themes such as nostalgia, consumption, love, protest, and a cautionary tale boldly permeates the space.
