It is further described below:<\/p>\n<h4>Shapefiles:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Outline of Montr\u00e9al (Montr\u00e9al Neighbourhoods)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Retrieved from <a href=\"http:\/\/donnees.ville.montreal.qc.ca\/dataset\/polygones-arrondissements\">http:\/\/donnees.ville.montreal.qc.ca\/dataset\/polygones-arrondissements<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Major Road Networks<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Retrieved from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donneesquebec.ca\/recherche\/fr\/dataset\/vmtl-geobase#avertissementTelechargement_70c1f8c7_91a0_4553_b602_89c3edb959b5\">https:\/\/www.donneesquebec.ca\/recherche\/fr\/dataset\/vmtl-geobase#avertissementTelechargement_70c1f8c7_91a0_4553_b602_89c3edb959b5<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Used class 7 (highways) and 6 (major roads) to create a road network layer<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selected class 7 and 6 in attribute table and exported data to a new layer<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Green Spaces<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Retrieved from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donneesquebec.ca\/recherche\/fr\/dataset\/vmtl-grands-parcs-parcs-d-arrondissements-et-espaces-publics\">https:\/\/www.donneesquebec.ca\/recherche\/fr\/dataset\/vmtl-grands-parcs-parcs-d-arrondissements-et-espaces-publics<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Chosen because people have tended to retreat to parks and other green spaces during quarantine to pass the time, thus, their proximity could potentially be related to clusters of COVID-19 outbreaks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elderly Homes<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Locations of long-term care homes retrieved from Google Maps\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Google search: &#8220;Elderly Homes Montr\u00e9al&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Points were then pinned using Google Earth Pro and singularly exported as KML files<\/li>\n<li>Each point KML file was combined into one file using <a href=\"https:\/\/kmlmerger.com\/\">https:\/\/kmlmerger.com\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The KML file was then converted to a Shapefile using ArcGIS Pro <em>KML to Layer<\/em> tool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Census Tract Boundaries (2016)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Accessed via CHASS UBC, retrieved from <a href=\"https:\/\/www12.statcan.gc.ca\/census-recensement\/2011\/geo\/bound-limit\/bound-limit-2016-eng.cfm\">https:\/\/www12.statcan.gc.ca\/census-recensement\/2011\/geo\/bound-limit\/bound-limit-2016-eng.cfm<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>File was reprojected to NAD 1983 MTM 8 from Lambert Conformal Conic<\/li>\n<li>File was then clipped to the Outline of Montr\u00e9al<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Metadata:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Census Tract Information across Montr\u00e9al: (census.xls)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Accessed via CHASS UBC, exported as a .xls<\/li>\n<li>These variables were chosen because they pertain to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/content\/dam\/phac-aspc\/documents\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/coronavirus\/covid-19-vulnerable-populations\/covid-19-vulnerable-populations-eng.pdf\">reported vulnerable populations<\/a> by the Public Health Agency of Canada (2020) and <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ctvnews.ca\/hit-hard-by-covid-19-montreal-s-hasidic-community-adjusting-to-public-health-orders-1.4872630\">local Qu\u00e9bec news reports<\/a> (CTV News Montr\u00e9al, 2020), include:\n<ul>\n<li>PopDen = Population density<\/li>\n<li>Pop65 = Percentage of the population over 65<\/li>\n<li>Jewish = Percentage of the population that is Jewish<\/li>\n<li>Alone = Percentage of the population living alone<\/li>\n<li>LowIncome = Percentage of the population who are low income<\/li>\n<li>HC_SA = Percentage of the population working in the health care and social assistance industry<\/li>\n<li>Homes_CT = The number of long-term care homes per Census Tract (manually added to the table and determined from visual analysis because there are only 14 care homes and are not included in the census)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>COVID-19 Cases per Montr\u00e9al Neighbourhood : (covid.xls)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Derived from total cases on April 14, 2020 NOT complete total cases, further reported on in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/finalproject479\/limitations\/\">Limitations<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Retrieved from <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ctvnews.ca\/covid-19\">https:\/\/montreal.ctvnews.ca\/covid-19<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Entered values for each Montr\u00e9al neighbourhood into a Microsoft Excel file (.xls)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The data used in this analysis was compiled from various public sources and was manually created, which were then organized in a ArcGIS geodatabase.
