Darren Dagraff

Darren Dagraaf

Project PI & Academic Support

Darren is currently an independent contractor for several international finance training companies. His main responsibilities include lecturing, curriculum development, training instructors, and business development. In addition, Darren is a full-time lecturer at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia (UBC). Before working in the education industry, he spent some 13 years at HSBC Bank. In the twilight of his career there, he focused on the credit risk exposure of the bank’s lending portfolio. Prior to that, Darren held various analytical and accounting positions in their Finance, Asset Management, and Insurance divisions. In terms of his international lecturing experience, over the past 15 years he has taught in Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, and throughout Asia – teaching topics at all 3 levels of the CFA Program as well as the U.S. CPA exams. He also has guest lectured at Hanoi University and Sunway College (Malaysia), to name but a few.

Caren is a fulltime lecturer in finance at UBC’s Sauder School of Business. Caren is a CFA charter holder and also holds a CPA, CA designation. Prior to teaching at UBC she worked in the finance industry and taught finance and accounting at other institutions. Caren hopes to share her passion for finance and accounting, gained through her industry experience, with students from around the world. Students learn foundational business skills against a backdrop of constantly changing financial markets and Caren hopes to help students gain useful finance life skills and to inspire students to pursue meaningful careers in finance.

Sunah Cho

Project Manager

As a Liaison, Sunah provides overall partnership relationships between Sauder School of Business and CTLT. She provides support to a broad range of projects including Flexible Learning, TLEF, SoTL, MOOC (edX) projects. She conducts needs analyses, plans, organizes, manages, monitors, completes, and evaluates projects within allocated time and resources. She works collaboratively with all levels of faculty and staff. Sunah is an experienced educational consultant, instructional designer, and project manager who engages faculty to collaboratively design and integrate technology into instructional programs, curricula, and courses. Sunah is also an experienced instructor who teaches a variety of online and blended learning courses.

Maddie Zapach

Co-Project Leader

Maddie is specializing in Accounting and Op Log, and is frankly not qualified to be teaching you Finance. As a PASS leader and TA, she has supported 9 Sauder courses and discovered a passion for pretending to know what’s going on. She served as the CUS Ombudsperson in 2017, and is a member of the Commerce Scholars Program, doing research at the intersection of Economics and Law. Her other interests include amateur Spanish filmmaking, dirt biking, and grammar policing — and her favorite shade of grey is Glaucous. Arkie Liu

Arkie is a fourth-year Bachelor of Commerce student, with a specialization in Finance and a concentration in Business Law. She is heavily involved in the academic community as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant. As much as she loves teaching and helping others, she loves to continuously learn and grow, which she plans to do as she furthers her education in law school. In her natural habitat, you can find Arkie DIY-ing, nail-painting, cafe-hopping, world-wandering, and binge-watching Disney movies.

Tracy Wong

Web Developer, Tech Lead

Tracy is currently in her 4th year completing a Combined Major in Business and Computer Science, with a concentration in Business Law. She has previously interned as a Software Engineer at Tableau Software, Fatigue Science and as an Academic Program Assistant at UBC Faculty of Dentistry. At times when she is not coding, you can find her blogging about her travels, touring the city with her DSLR or being a little too logical at board games nights.

Alair Ang

Alair is in his 1st year pursuing a bachelor of commerce with a minor in music. He has previously volunteered at Science World, SFU Camps and CVC Flying Squad. Outside of school, Alair can be found running, biking, watching netflix, practicing piano, or trying new food.

Andrea Ngai

Script Lead, Script Editor, Video Editing Lead

Andrea is in her 4th year working towards her Bachelor of Commerce with a specialization in Finance. Her previous work experiences include working as an Equity Research Associate at Canalyst, Advisor Sales Co-op at Fidelity Investments, and Business Solutions Consultant Co-op at Traction on Demand. Andrea’s interests include baking, editing vacation vlogs, dog-spotting and trying new food places around Vancouver.

Rachel White

Script Lead, Film Lead, Animations

Rachel is in her fourth year of a Bachelor of Commerce, with a specialization in accounting. Rachel has spent the past two summers working in mid- and large-size accounting firms, working with finance concepts from small businesses up to multi-billion-dollar corporations. She loves to read and travel, spent her third year studying abroad in Stockholm, and has her sights set on travelling more of Europe after graduation. Rachel will begin her full-time job as a Staff Accountant in the fall and continue her study path towards her CPA designation.

Jon Kim

Admin

Jon is in his third year of the BUCS program and launched the IT infrastructure and information systems in the beginning of the project. Previously Jon was worked at TD Tower as a customer experience associate and recently completed his first co-op term as a Risk Advisory Analyst with Deloitte’s Operational Risk service line. Jon loves serving his student community and currently does so as the Vice-President of Student Engagement with the Commerce Undergraduate Society. A real foodie and techie, he will be watching cooking tutorials or exploring new technologies in his limited free time!

Ethan Zapach

Film lead

Ethan is a first year business student interested in marketing and sales, who believes he could sell RNA to a ribosome. His interests include making poorly-produced green screen videos (you can find him at aboyndhisgreenscreen on instagram), hitting the gym harder than the books, and collecting Starbucks mugs from places he will never go. Growing up he was always the class clown, but he hopes you will pay attention to these videos, since watching them has helped him teach himself finance.

Janice Lan

Janice is in her third year studying Business Technology Management and Operations and Logistics. She has worked in Sauder as both a teaching assistant for COMM 290 and as a research assistant in the marketing department. Janice is also part of the Commerce Scholars Program and works on projects with Tim Huh in the Operations and Logistics department. You will often see her at any and all Sauder Health and Wellness events which is a service that she is the current Co-Chair for. Outside of school, you will see her learning new languages, playing a variety of instruments, or exploring new cuisines (although she has a special spot for bubble tea).

Sonya Kang

Sonya is the fourth year of her Bachelors of Commerce degree with a specialization in accounting. She has spent that last two summers interning at both a mid-size and big four accounting firm and gained experience in both public and private sector clients – she even had the opportunity of working on the University of British Columbia’s year end audit. She will begin working full time as a staff accountant in the fall and continue on to pursue her CPA. Outside of academics, Sonya enjoys exploring the hip/hop and RnB music scene, watching and playing sports and laying in her bed watching Netflix.

Simrit Hundal

Simrit is in her third year specializing in Finance with a minor in Political Science. Her previous work experience includes working as a Financial Services Co-op with MD Financial Management and will now be working with RBC Global Asset Management at the start of 2020. Simrit is part of Young Women in Business UBC and works to promote gender parity and female leadership. She is also a regular volunteer with the BC Children’s Hospital. In her free time, you can catch Simrit playing tennis, travelling to new places, and exploring the city with her friends!
